My mother had a copy of this book when I was a kid. I leafed through it bravely staring at the images of people with extra limbs, parasitic twins, elastic faces and all manner of physical deformities. That night I had nightmares. Not surprising. The following morning I picked up the book again and began to carefully read through the stories. They were humanely told. No one was made fun of or called a "freak". The stories were tragic and haunting. I learned a lot from them. After reading through the stories, even though they were disturbing, I had no more nightmares. However, I was haunted.
