RalphLauren: Women's 2008 Olympic Games Polo

First to recommend

Description

Chinese characters adorning the iconic American polo by Ralph Lauren ? No, nothing is amiss. In fact, we, as a world, are on the brink of some kind of wonderful. More accurately, some kinds of wonderful, as athletes from nearly every country in the world converge upon Beijing for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Records will be made. Records will be broken. And if you cannot be there, you will want to somehow share in this greatness. This polo is a fitting start.

Victoria and Albert Museum: Fashion Vs. Sport - On exhibit August 5, 2008 - January 4, 2009

First to recommend

Description

Coinciding almost exactly with the Opening Ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games is the opening of an exhibit exploring the intersection of fashion and sport. The exhibit will be organized around 4 central themes: Dare, Display, Play and Desire. If you cannot make it to China to watch the athletes in action, perhaps you can make it to London for this vibrant showcase of sartorial prowess. If you are lucky, you will be able to fit both on your agenda.

UrbanOutfitters: Lux Colorblocked Sailor Swimsuit

First to recommend

Description

A suit befitting the beauties of the USA Synchronized Swim Team, the first of all American athletes to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The ten-woman team includes: Brooke Abel, Janet Culp, Kate Hooven, Christina Jones, Becky Kim, Meghan Kinney, Andrea Nott, Annabelle Orme, Jillian Penner and Kim Probst. Some of these women will compete in both the duet and team events, while others in only as part of a team. Either way, I cannot wait to see this glorious underwater ballet in action.

Shanaze Reade: The Website

First to recommend

Description

Be on the lookout for the launch of British BMX rider Shanaze Reade's new website. She will be representing her country at the 2008 Summer Olympics, riding for the gold in the women's BMX competition. Of course, she won't be wearing a dress, but I bet she will look just as hot if not hotter in her racing duds.

Zagat Survey: Beijing

First to recommend

Description

If you are lucky enough to be heading to Beijing to see some of the Olympic action, be sure to take along this new guide from Zagat. It will help you find your way to restaurants and hotels in your price range, as well as give you some ideas for things to do in between games and competitions.

As the Olympics draw to a close, I am deeply humbled by the dedication of the many athletes who have participated in these events. Many went completely unnoticed, thrilled to simply be a part of the Games. A lucky few exceeded even their own expectations. And one particularly talented individual kept setting record after record with unprecedented focus and sublime athleticism. Thank you to Michael Phelps for lifting our spirits, raising the bar and demonstrating grace both in and out of the swimming pool.

Dunhill/Jaques of London: Table Tennis Set

First to recommend

Description

Above and well beyond the standard green table tennis table, this sleek model is the result of a collaboration between Dunhill and Jaques of London. Fully collapsible into a leather case and equipped with a set of bats (paddles) and balls, this table can even travel with you. An Olympic sport for only the past 25 years, it is nonetheless dominated by the Chinese. The table tennis competition may then be one of the fiercest of the 2008 games. (via Luxury Insider)

adidas: Olympics 2008 - adiStar Rowing shoes

First to recommend

Description

Designed specifically with the rower in mind, the bottom of these sneaks provide stable footing and facilitate the transfer of power from human leg to rowing vessel. The striped strips which cross over the top of the shoe are easily released in the event of a tip-over. If you have never fancied rowing before, perhaps these shoes will give you a little incentive to try out that rowing machine at the gym.
